Google is shutting down its album archive on 19 July here's how you can back up your data

Google has stated that it is discontinuing its Album Archive service. It will be unavailable to Google users from July 19, 2023. For those who are unfamiliar, the Album Archive function allows users to access and manage information from several Google products.

Google is sending an email to its users with the subject line - Album Archive Update. In the email, Google informs users that Google Album Archive will no longer be available on July 19, 2023. It is advised that users use Google Takeout to download a copy of the data.

The email reads as follows:

You are receiving this email because you recently accessed Album Archive or because you have content that is viewable in Album Archive. Album Archive will be unavailable beginning July 19, 2023. Before then, we recommend that you utilise Google Takeout to download a copy of your Album Archive data.

Album Archive now allows you to browse and manage album content from certain Google products within Album Archive.

However, starting July 19, some content that is only available in Album Archive will be removed, including

1. In certain circumstances, such as modest thumbnail photographs and album comments or likes

2. Data from the Album Archive for Google Hangouts

3. Prior to 2018, background photos posted to the Gmail theme picker

If you would like to use this data, please make a copy of it using Google Takeout. Even once Album Archive is decommissioned, you can still use those Google products to view and control some content directly - learn more.

Thank you

Your Album Archive team

How do you back up your data?
With the removal of the Album Archive feature, customers are recommended to download a backup of their data using Google Takeout. Google will either email them a download link or transfer the data to one of the top cloud storage services, such as Google Drive, IDrive, OneDrive, or Dropbox.
