Apple has recently announced iOS 17, a major update that brings new features and improvements to the iPhone. iOS 17 enhances the communication experience with Phone, FaceTime, and Messages, simplifies sharing with AirDrop, introduces smarter input options, and adds new experiences with Journal and StandBy. Here are some of the highlights of iOS 17 and how you can get it on your iPhone.

New Features in iOS 17

  • Contact Posters: You can now customize how you appear on incoming calls with beautiful treatments for photos or Memoji, as well as eye-catching typography and font colors. You can also use Contact Posters for third-party calling apps.
  • Live Voicemail: You can now see real-time transcription as someone leaves a voicemail, and pick up while the caller is leaving their message. Live Voicemail is handled on-device and remains private.
  • FaceTime Audio and Video Messages: You can now leave audio or video messages when you call someone who is not available. They can enjoy your message later and reply with their own.
  • FaceTime Reactions: You can now express yourself with Reactions such as hearts, balloons, fireworks, laser beams, rain, and more. You can activate them with simple gestures, and they are also available for third-party video calling apps.
  • AirDrop NameDrop: You can now quickly share your contact details with someone nearby using AirDrop. Just tap on their name on your screen and they will receive your NameDrop card on their iPhone or Apple Watch.
  • Offline Maps: You can now download maps for offline navigation and access them even when you don’t have an internet connection. You can also search for places and get directions offline.
  • Journal: This is a new app that helps you practice gratitude and document your day-to-day activities. You can write notes, add photos, videos, audio, stickers, and more. Journal also integrates with Health and Fitness to show your wellness data alongside your entries.
  • StandBy: This is a new feature that shows glanceable information when you set your iPhone down and charge it. You can see the time, date, weather, battery level, reminders, notifications, and more. You can also customize what you want to see on StandBy.
  • Smarter Input: iOS 17 improves the speed and accuracy of typing with autocorrect, predictive text, emoji suggestions, and more. You can also use voice typing anywhere on the keyboard, swipe to type with one hand, and access symbols and numbers with a long press.
