Everything about the Google Pixel Fold, from specs to design to anticipated price

The eagerly awaited Pixel Fold from Google is almost here. But the Galaxy Z Fold 4, one of the greatest foldables on the market right now, will give the phone tough competition.

The Pixel Fold, Google's eagerly anticipated first folding smartphone, will be unveiled on May 10 at the forthcoming Google I/O event. We can anticipate a brand-new tablet and a reasonably priced Pixel 7a in addition to the Pixel Fold. The Pixel Fold is certain to take the stage and be compared to Samsung's newest folding smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold 4. There may also be announcements on Bard and Android 14, but the Pixel Fold is set to dominate the show.

Google and Samsung have been collaborating closely for the past two years to improve the Android experience on Samsung smartphones. For instance, Google's WatchOS is now used by the latest Galaxy smartwatches. The stable Android 12L, Google's specially designed operating system for foldable devices, was also first shipped with the Galaxy Z Fold 4 as a foldable.

The Pixel Fold and the Galaxy Z Fold 4 share some similarities as a result of this collaboration, but the Pixel Fold is anticipated to have its own distinctive features and stand out on its own.

Design:

Due to its smaller size and square-shaped display, the Pixel phone is anticipated to be very different from the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The main tablet-sized screen might have a viewing area of 7.6 inches, while the cover display is anticipated to have a 5.8-inch viewing area.

While the primary screen might be made of a cutting-edge polymer material that offers flexibility and endurance, the front or cover screen might use an OLED panel. Similar to the Pixel 7 Pro, the rear panel housing the camera might have a glass finish. According to rumours, the Pixel Fold may weigh 283 grammes, or about 29 grammes more than the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

SoC:

The Google Tensor G2 SoC, which is also used in the Pixel 7 series, could be found in the future Pixel Fold. While the Galaxy Z Fold 5 may use a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. The Galaxy Z Fold might have a hardware advantage thanks to the strength of the Snapdragon 8 Gen series SoCs.

Google might make up for this by improving the software experience to give the Pixel Fold a smoother performance, though. Google, who is in charge of Android, might fix the problem of app optimisation, as demonstrated by the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

Battery and camera:

Little is known about the camera; however, the official photos show that the Pixel Fold has triple rear cameras. The smartphone should have the same camera configuration as the Pixel 7 Pro (a 10.2-inch ultra-wide camera, a 48-megapixel telephoto sensor, and a 50-megapixel wide camera). The Galaxy Z Fold 4 features excellent performance and the same camera sensors as a flagship model. To gain an advantage, Google might provide some more functionality.

The Pixel Fold is anticipated to include a 4,821 mAh battery, which should provide adequate battery life. In contrast, the top foldable gadget from Samsung has a 4,400mAh battery.

It will ultimately come down to money. With a price tag of Rs. 1.54 lakh, the Galaxy Z Fold is one of the priciest smartphones on the market. Although the Pixel Fold is anticipated to cost the same, a launch in India appears doubtful.
